Project Windows 2025

The Pulaski Elston Business Association is proud to announce the unveiling of a new public art installation titled "Caillebotte’s Summer in Chicago?" by acclaimed local artist Cyd Smillie of Arts Alive Chicago. The installation, located on the exterior windows of 39th Ward Alderman Samantha Nugent’s office, 4200 W. Lawrence Avenue in Chicago, was completed June 30, 2025.
The three windowpanes were designed as part of the Art Institute of Chicago’s (AIC) Project Windows campaign. The annual contest invites Chicago’s neighborhoods to participate by showcasing local artists' interpretations of the featured artist in the AIC’s summer exhibition.
This year’s summer exhibition is Gustave Caillebotte: Painting His World. Caillebotte was a French artist and arts supporter in the late 1800s. While his work did not reach the public until after his death, the financial freedom he had allowed him to paint non-traditional subjects for the era: his family, sportsmen, workers, street scenes, etc. The theme of his work represents impressionist Paris, French cafes, urban scenes, and a focus on everyday people.
Cyd Smillie, known for her local murals, won the 2024 Art Institute Award for her depiction of the Georgia O’Keeffe My New Yorks painted on the former Marie’s Pizza building last summer, says: "I love this opportunity to explore historic artists and connect with their palette and subjects. I think AIC is brilliant to include the artists across the city, and I am grateful to PEBA and the alderperson for the windows on the northwest side."
The public is invited to vote for their favorite interpretation through August 18, 2025. Just scan the QR code to vote!!
